Human trafficking victim residence permits are issued by governorships for a period of thirty days. The residence permits for human trafficking victims can be extended for up to six months each time, but these periods cannot exceed a total of three years.

Differences between Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling:

Consent Element: In migrant smuggling, the individual pays a smuggler to be taken to another country willingly, whereas in human trafficking, there may be no consent or the consent may be obtained through coercion or manipulation.

Transnational Dimension: Both crimes involve a transnational aspect, but while it is an essential element in migrant smuggling, human trafficking does not necessarily have to involve crossing borders.

Target: Human trafficking is a crime against individual rights and freedoms, whereas migrant smuggling is a crime against the state.

Economic Relationship: In migrant smuggling, the economic relationship between the smuggler and the migrant ends once the smuggling fee is paid, whereas in human trafficking, the economic relationship is continuous, with the trafficker continuing to profit from the victim over a prolonged period.

A human trafficker is a person who obtains, kidnaps, transports, harbors, or receives individuals through coercion for the purpose of exploitation, such as forced labor, servitude, prostitution, or organ trafficking.
