- Humanitarian Residence Permit

It is a type of residence permit granted to foreign nationals who are required to stay in Turkey for humanitarian reasons specified in the Law on Foreigners and International Protection.

1. How long can a humanitarian residence permit be granted?

The duration of the humanitarian residence permit is determined by the authorities based on the situation and the reason for applying for the humanitarian residence permit. Generally, the humanitarian residence permit is granted for one year and can be extended indefinitely with one-year extension periods each time.

2. Who can get a humanitarian residence permit?

Humanitarian residence permit can be applied for in situations where leaving Turkey would result in a violation of universal human rights. However, if it is possible to apply for another type of residence permit instead of a humanitarian residence permit, then a humanitarian residence permit cannot be applied for.

Humanitarian residence permit can be applied for in the cases listed below:

• In cases where the best interests of the child are at stake,(humanitarian residence permits may be granted to parents as well along with the child)
• For those who file a lawsuit against the deportation decision (the decision to file a lawsuit stops the deportation).
• Foreigners who cannot be deported(foreigners who may face the death penalty, have health risks during travel, are receiving medical treatment in Turkey and cannot access treatment in their home country, are victims of violence, or are victims of human trafficking cannot be deported.).
• In some cases related to international protection status applications.
• In exceptional circumstances.
